How to redesign an everyday product?

 

Nowadays, kitchens are smaller. The number of everyday kitchenware is reduced due to multifunctionality but they lose quality and sustainability.

However, the popularity of cooking and pastry TV contests and the increase of homemade food and cooking offer the opportunity to redesign kitchenware products based on these social changes.

Through research, I noticed that the “standard” rolling pin in wood is not convenient to wash. Furthermore, its handles are useless and take space to store.

 

This new rolling pin flattens and cuts the dough. Its ergonomic shape enables to flatten the dough in a more efficient way since the user concentrates his strength directly in the middle of the rolling pin. This fluted shape helps to smooth out the dough. Removing the handles enables a gain of space as well.

This “two in one” rolling pin is made of porcelain, which is often neglected and replaced by plastic or wood materials. Contrary to popular opinion, porcelain has interesting characteristics: hygienic, permeable, mass production facility and resistant.
