Open the light

WORK IN PROGRESS…

This project is based on creating a new way to turn the light on and off in the context of reading by playing on the contrast of traditional object associated with technology (coding combined with Arduino). Indeed, books are currently replaced by eReader; thereby it might be relevant to embellish the action of opening and reading a “paper book”.

There are different gestures when you read a book (on a table, in a bed, to have the book in the hands, on the knees...). In this project, these gestures are then controlling the light intensity needed. By adjusting the light intensity, “Open the Light” aims to increase comfort of reading. Furthermore, the light is concentrated and the user avoids lightening up the whole room.

For this work in progress, I first started to prototype and code in order to test feasibility and the ergonomics. Based on observation and technical specifications from an earlier stage, the next steps are then to work on the light and its aesthetic, and to make user testing.
