Strip it!

What is good or bad design?
Can people judge a product without any marketing?

In our short video we wanted to highlight how marketing plays a role in people’s judgment of what is good or bad design. Furthermore, we had ambition to show how much exaggerated elements, such as the advertising and the packaging, are put into a product more than design itself creating a bias of “good design”. After viewing our video we wanted people to think about when we take off these excess elements, would they still consider a certain object as good design or as good product.

Through our video, we are illustrating the song and dance that go into promoting a product. We are demonstrating how advertising influences people’s consumption behaviour as well. In our example, the Duck toilet cleaner, even after we strip the “excess” down we could see that the bottle portrays an effective design in terms of conveying the brand. Overall, we wanted to emphasize one of the elements we consider as a big influence in creating the judgment of a good design within this modern society and spark a conversation on how far it influences us.
